Partial eclipse occurs when the moon covers a portion of the sun as seen from the Earth. Late Thursday, October 23, 2014, the moon passed in front of the sun causing a partial solar eclipse. The eclipse began at 3:37 p.m. EDT and ended at 7:51 p.m. In the eastern United States, the eclipse reached maximum around the time of sunset: 6:52 p.m. in the Tampa Bay area.
