Shajarat-al-Hayat is a so-called Tree of life located in Bahrain. It has been making a seemingly impossible living out of dry sand for approximately 400 years. There is no apparent source of water and other vegetation for miles around.
The mystery of the survival of the tree has made it a legend. The tree is a local tourist attraction, as it is the only major tree growing in the area. It is visited by approximately 50,000 tourists every year and the tree often is damaged by graffiti carvings.
